25 Mar 40 years: Galerie Raphael
Galerie Raphael celebrates its 40th anniversary on April 3, 2021.
On April 3, 2021, Galerie Raphael celebrates its 40th anniversary! Since its founding in 1981, Galerie Raphael has specialized in 20th century and contemporary prints and works on paper. The main focus of the gallery’s activity is the trade with editions of important artists such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Sam Francis, Alex Katz and many other names. Besides its continuous exhibition activity, the gallery has a long and successful tradition of participation in fairs. Among the fairs are international fairs in Toronto, Miami or Palm Beach as well as regional fairs such as Art Karlsruhe and Cologne Fine Art. Galerie Raphael is the address for high-quality prints from classical modernism to contemporary art in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area.
Galerie Raphael was founded in 1981 by Petru Petrov, the father of the current owner Raphael Petrov. The gallery’s first branch opened on April 3, 1981 at Grüneburgweg 89 in Frankfurt’s West End with a solo exhibition by Romanian artist Horia Damian (1922-2012). The gallery’s current location, at Domstrasse 6, opened two years later in 1983. Located in the heart of Frankfurt’s old town, the gallery has helped shape its appearance ever since. Today, after 40 years of ups and downs, Galerie Raphael is looking positively to the future in order to hopefully inspire future generations of art lovers for prints.
Due to the current situation, the 40th anniversary celebrations will, with reservations, be made up for in September as part of the start of the season. For this special occasion, Galerie Raphael will open the season with an Alex Katz exhibition.
