Modern Prints 2013

From May 25th to June 22nd we are showing a selection of prints by important classic modern artists.

Modern Prints 2013 is the first in a series of annually scheduled survey exhibitions of original prints and multiples by relevant classic modern artists.

Classic Modern Art or Modernism as an era in art history usually refers to the first half of the 20th century. Artistic research is now moving away from one of the major principles in painting so far: the paradigm of mimesis, the true and life-like imitation of reality. Traditional rules regarding perspective or proportions, natural coloring or the simple aim to depict figuratively, are often purposely overthrown and discarded.
Out of this transition into „Modernism“ artistic movements like the expressionism, cubism, surrealism and abstract art arise, which will all have a fundamental influence on art of the following decades.

The exhibtion shows prints by important artists of this manifold and diverse era, f.e. Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse and Alberto Giacometti.
